Fit 3 AA batteries, stand the Mini Vortex on a flat surface and use the switch on the bottom. It runs wherever you put it, with no cord.

spinning vortex NOT tornado
The picture is misleading, it makes it look like its a tornado lamp but it is a vortex it is a bunch of sparkling pieces that spin around as if thrown by a tornado, it is very pretty my kids love it!
Cheap & didn't last long, really disappointed!
Being that this has the same price point as a larger glass & metal base lava lamp, I was initially disappointed at the size & quality. It is made of lightweight cheap plastic. It's not a vortex/tornado, it's just glitter that swirls around, it never actually made a tornado shape. The battery power doesn't work so we had to find/purchase an adapter as well. And after 2 months it started making loud grinding noises, and a couple of weeks later, the red color is the only one that works, it no longer switches to green and blue. Very disappointed, as i have about $25 in this cheap piece of junk after the adapter. I would have expected to get at least a year out of it :(

the lava lamp is really pretty and I love looking at the colors and it was well worth the money and I bought two more.
